Bespoke former for Japanese bath
November 2011

One of the most unusual enquiries On The Level has received was an enquiry for a bespoke former designed for use under a Japanese bath. The former was to be installed on the first floor on a suspended timber floor, and it was going to be covered with a sheet
vinyl floor covering and coved up the walls. It was necessary to design a former that had a flat surface to support the bath, as well as ensuring that if water did splash over the side of the bath, or the gully ever backed up, the excess water would drain
away.
The Japanese bath had no gully; instead there was to be a spigot that discharged into a drain. After various discussions with the client On The Level decided to resolve the problem of the outlet with an untrapped gully built into the former and an inline
Hep VO valve. To ensure the water drained away from the supports for the bath, they built up the area behind the feet to fall to the outlet.
