This CPD will provide the designer with an overview of the main drivers within the specification process for when specialist containment kerbs are required as well as an understanding of the correct way to integrate these into the design of urban highways to protect users where there is a risk of vehicles leaving the carriageway and potentially coming into contact with pedestrians and/or structures. During the course of the CPD we will consider the following points:

- Designing to incorporate containment kerbs as a passive safety feature
Paving Design for Urban Areas

This CPD will provide the urban designer with an overview of the main material types available for the construction of pavements within urban areas along with the principle drivers within the specification process including:
- Sustainability criteria of pavement design
- Design considerations and current thinking
- Review of the main material types and formats available
- Case studies of two successful paving projects
SUDS and the Role of Permeable Paving
(Seminar)
This CPD will provide the designer with an overview of the main drivers within the specification process for when Sustainable Drainage Schemes (SUDS) are required as well as an understanding of the value of permeable paving within these schemes. SUDS will become increasingly frequent in the coming years following changes in planning guidance and future legislation. During the course of the seminar we will consider the following points:
- Sustainability criteria of pavement design
- Sustainable drainage
- Permeable paving design
- Permeable paving maintenance
