Aquaflow permeable paving and
stormwater source control system
Applications  This system is designed
to control stormwater run-off and the
subsequent overloading and pollution
of water courses. Typical uses are in
car parks, industrial estates, retail
centres, pedestrian areas, motorway
service areas and domestic drives.
It can also cater for rainwater from
roofs. The system can incorporate
water harvesting as well as
ThermaPave ground source heat
pump technology saving fuel bills by
up to 50%.
Authority  The system has been
tested for over 15 years and is
covered by patents and patent
applications in Great Britain and
other countries. It is the subject of
Agrément Cert. 97/3373.
Description  The system comprises
permeable paving laid on a
specialist sub-base which does not
require gullies, drainage pipes, drain
runs or oil and silt traps.
Permeable paving comprises the
Aquaflow permeable block paving
range: Aquaflow, Aquapave,
Aquaflow ML45 Aquaflow ML,
Aquasett and Aquaslab. All blocks
and slabs incorporate tapers and
drainage channels.
Sub-base  Water is filtered through
a 5 mm stone laying course, Inbitex
geotextile and 350 mm depth of
sub-base stone. The tanked system
is lined with SC membrane so that
the water can be released in a
controlled manner or recycled.
Alternatively the infiltration system is
lined with Inbitex geotextile and the
water infiltrated directly back into the
sub-grade.
Shape, dimensions: Aquaflow
permeable paving range
Aquaflow, Aquasett and Aquasett
combined paving is available in a 60
and 80 mm depth, with Aquaslab and
Aquapave available in a 60 mm depth
only. The machine lay products
Aquaflow ML and Aquaflow ML45,
are available in a 80 mm depth.
Liquids  Aquaflow blocks let
through water at a rate of 4500 mm/
m
2
/h. Where a tanked system is
used, discharge rates in accordance
with greenfield run-off can be readily
achieved.
Chemical  Water exiting from an
infiltration system has a pH of
approximately 7.5. Research has
shown that approximately 90% of
heavy metals that enter the system
are retained.
Biological  Oils are degraded within
the system by a naturally occurring
microbial population.
SERVICES
The company offers a free site
specific design service for the
stormwater source control system.
