Burlington Slate offers a range of English stone for external cladding, internal lining, internal and external flooring, fully
supported treads and risers on stairs, roofing slates, interior fittings such as worksurfaces and externally in landscaping.
Introduction Burlington Slate Ltd is
a family owned company that
extracts and works stone from
several quarries in the English Lake
District. As each quarry provides a
different stone with its own
characteristic appearance the
company can offer the specifier a
wide choice of stones and colours.
Extraction is by use of diamond
wires with cutting by laser guided
machinery in the company's modern
workshops. Further shaping and
finishing is by local craftsmen to
meet customer and project
requirements.
Authority Burlington Slate operates
a BS EN ISO 9001 quality
assurance system.
Green issues The use of diamond
wire extraction avoids the use of
blasting, creating less damage and
intrusion on the environment.
DESCRIPTION
Burlington stone is used to create:
cladding/lining panels with squared
or rebated/chamfered edges;
tiles to create decorative and
attractive flooring with different
patterns and bonds - both in
standard shapes and bespoke cut to
geometric or irregular profiles;
landscaping products and features
including garden and terrace walling,
copings, seating, plinths, steps,
platforms, standing stones, fountains,
streams and other water features,
bridges, sculptures and obelisks.
The stones used are Baycliff
Caulfeild, Baycliff Lord, Blue Grey/
Kirkby, Brandy Crag, Broughton
Moor, Bursting Stone and
Elterwater.
Surface treatments for cladding,
lining and tiles comprise:
waterjet: a non-slip matt finish,
honed: a smooth finish with a slight
sheen,
sanded: a coarse polish to give a
semi-smooth regular finish,
riven/cleft: where the stone is riven
along its line of cleavage to reveal
its natural grain,
gritblasted: similar to cleft, but
available on slabs of greater size,
flamed - an irregular textured finish,
textured - a pitted or grooved
surface.
Roofing slates use Blue Grey slate
and Westmorland Green slate.
Appearance With the exception of
Blue Grey/Kirkby, which has an
even tone throughout, each stone is
Burlington Slate Ltd
highlighted by contrasting veins in
the following colours:
Baycliff Caulfeild Limestone - buff,
with coffee mottling,
Baycliff Lord Limestone - oatmeal,
with dark cream markings,
Blue Grey/Kirkby - blue-grey,
Brandy Crag - silver-grey,
Broughton Moor - mid-green,
Bursting Stone - olive-green,
Elterwater - pale-green.
Stones may be combined in a single
scheme to give complementary and
contrasting appearance.
