Burlington Slate offers a range of English stone for internal and external flooring and for treads and risers on stairs.
This stone is an ideal material for high traffic areas such as office lobbies and shopping malls due to its extreme hardness
and durability.
Introduction Burlington Slate Ltd is
a family owned company that
extracts and works stone from
several quarries in the English Lake
District. As each quarry provides a
different stone with its own
characteristic appearance the
company can offer the specifier a
wide choice of stones and colours.
Extraction is by use of diamond
wires with cutting by laser guided
machinery in the company's modern
workshops. Further shaping and
finishing is by local craftsmen to
meet customer and project
requirements.
Applications Tiles may be used for
internal and external flooring and as
fully supported treads and risers on
concrete or steel-framed stairs.
Authority Burlington Slate
operates a BS EN ISO 9001 quality
assurance system.
Green issues The use of diamond
wire extraction avoids the use of
blasting, creating less damage and
intrusion on the environment.
DESCRIPTION
Flooring/stair tiles are offered in the
following Burlington stone - Baycliff
Caulfeild, Baycliff Lord, Kirkby,
Brandy Crag, Broughton Moor,
Bursting Stone and Elterwater.
Surface treatments include:
waterjet: where the stone is worked
with high-pressure water jets to give
a non-slip matt finish,
honed: a smooth finish with a slight
sheen produced by using a
polishing head,
sanded: where sawn slabs are
coarsely polished to give a
semi-smooth regular finish,
riven/cleft: a traditional treatment
where the stone is riven along its
line of cleavage to reveal its natural
grain,
gritblasted: a finish similar to cleft,
but available on slabs of greater
size,
flamed: where the top surface of the
slab is burned off giving an
irregular textured finish,
textured: where top surfaces are
pneumatically tooled to produce a
pitted or grooved surface.
Tiles are used to create decorative
and attractive flooring - examples
are grid patterns and running bonds
using square tiles; grids, running
bonds, basket weaves and
herringbone patterns from
rectangular tiles and a traditional
variation on running bonds using
tiles of the same width but differing
