Burlington Slate offers a range of English stone for external cladding and internal lining. The stone is suitable for both
external and internal uses as it will withstand extremes in climatic conditions.
Introduction Burlington Slate Ltd is
a family owned company that
extracts and works stone from
several quarries in the English Lake
District. As each quarry provides a
different stone with its own
characteristic appearance the
company can offer the specifier a
wide choice of stones and colours.
Extraction is by use of diamond
wires with cutting by laser guided
machinery in the company's modern
workshops. Further shaping and
finishing is by local craftsmen to
meet customer and project
requirements.
Authority Burlington Slate operates
a BS EN ISO 9001 quality
assurance system.
Green issues The use of diamond
wire extraction avoids the use of
blasting, creating less damage and
intrusion on the environment.
Full details of the company's
conservation policy can be viewed
on its website.
DESCRIPTION
Cladding and lining panels are
offered in the following Burlington
stone - Baycliff Caulfeild (interior
linings only), Baycliff Lord (interior
linings only), Kirkby Blue Grey,
Brandy Crag, Broughton Moor,
Bursting Stone and Elterwater.
Surface treatments include:
waterjet: where the stone is worked
with high-pressure water jets to give
a non-slip matt finish,
honed: a smooth finish with a slight
sheen produced by using a polishing
head,
sanded: where sawn slabs are
coarsely polished to give a
semi-smooth regular finish,
riven/cleft: a traditional treatment
where the stone is riven along its
line of cleavage to reveal its natural
grain,
gritblasted: a finish similar to cleft,
but available on slabs of greater
size,
flamed: where the top surface of the
slab is burned off giving an
irregular textured finish,
textured: where top surfaces are
pneumatically tooled to produce a
pitted or grooved surface.
Panels may be installed with open
joints (as in rainscreen cladding),
soft joints (using flexible sealants) or
with hard joints (using mortars).
They may be installed using
loadbearing, restraining or
combination loadbearing/restraining
fixings.
