Gerflor offers a range of solutions from SPM including hygienic wall protection systems, protection for corners and doors
and handrail products. Designed for providing protection against impact and abrasion of internal surfaces, such as in
corridors, circulation areas and storage areas, products are available in a wide choice of colours and finishes for decorative
and recognition purposes.
Introduction Gerflor has over
70 years' experience in the
manufacture of innovative,
decorative and eco-responsible vinyl
interior finishes and flooring for
contract, sport, transport and
residential applications. SPM
International has been integrated
into the Gerflor brand, offering
customers a suite of reliable and
decorative systems that provide
safety, hygiene, easy maintenance
and noise management.
Authority SPM handrails are
DDA compliant and have been
independently certified by Hardy
Consultants (independent access
consultants). The antimicrobial joints
for hand rails have been
independently tested to ISO 20743
by Nasocotech. The IPL (Institute of
Pasteur, Lille) certifies that the hand
rails Decosheet and Decoclean are
safe for application in acute areas.
Green issues Materials used in the
manufacture process are mainly
non-polluting PVC and aluminium.
These are 100% recyclable and all
manufacturing off-cuts are recycled.
PVC products contain no heavy
metals such as lead, cadmium,
arsenic and tin. No materials used in
the manufacturing process appear
in the list drawn up under the
REACH regulations.
Gerflor products are suitable for use
in building projects adopting High
Quality Environment (HQE)
standards. They are easy to clean
and reduce the overall consumption
of water and cleaning products.
They extend the life of building
finishes and the intervals between
wall repair and renovation work.
DESCRIPTION
SPM wall protection systems and
handrails comprise 5 product
ranges.
Wall Protection
comprises 3 products:
- Wall protection rails: a horizontal
protection system that may be
fitted at 1 or 2 levels and protects
walls exposed to intensive
wheeled traffic in corridors
- Protection plates that protect walls
and doors against abrasion by
furniture, chairs and repeated
impact
- Decosheet panels that protect
large walls, doors and other
surfaces.

Corner Protection
Corner protectors are self-adhesive
for light impact areas or mounted on
an aluminium core for areas of more
intense activity. They may be
applied to corners of any angle.
Protectors are manufactured with
PVC in a choice of profiles with one
model of stainless steel.
Door Protection
A range of plates and panels to suit
all types of door offers protection
against impact and decoration in a
range of applications. A range of
decorative door plates with cutouts
and inlaid signage is also available.
Handrails
Ergonomically designed and
providing reliable wall protection,
SPM handrails are a combination of
PVC and aluminium. They assist
mobility for the less able and provide
security and wall protection. The
Escort range has a double bracket
available for installation of handrails
at 2 heights, one standard and one
lower for children and those in
wheelchairs. Escort handrails can
include tactile identifiers of finishing
strip.
Both the Escort 40 and Performer 2
are available in DDA compliant
versions in order to comply with
Document M and BS 8300.
Hygienic Cladding
Decoclean panels were especially
developed for areas exposed to a
high risk of infection and to help the
fight against hospital-acquired
infection. This high specification
level also enables them to be used
in food preparation areas and
kitchens.
INFORMATION COMMON TO ALL
PRODUCTS
Appearance Products are available
in a wide range of colours including
30 natural, powder or pastel solid
colours and 6 wood finishes.
Mechanics Several SPM products
(including Performer and Starline)
have demonstrated their ability to
resist tear-off in extremely severe
tests and impact resistance in real
operating conditions.
Fire The Decosheet products have
a Class 0 fire rating (Exova
Warrington fire test reports nos
194308 and 194309).
Chemical Independent tests
demonstrate that PVC extruded
sections withstand standard
cleaning, disinfection and antiseptic
products used in the healthcare
sector and public buildings.
Biological The ranges are specially
designed with non-porous surfaces
and rounded profiles to prevent
build-up of dust and germs. Tests by
the IPL conclude that SPM products,
when cleaned in accordance with
methods, detergents & disinfectants
used within hospitals, can achieve
effective decontamination levels and
may be used in infectious risk critical
areas. Intertek test reports on
bacteriostatic Decosheet profiles
and bactericidal handrail joints are
available from the company.
Durability The products are
designed to outlive the life
expectancy of the building.
MAINTENANCE
Cleaning Products' smooth finish
requires only a very simple cost
effective cleaning regime, details of
which are available on request.
SUPPLY
Products are supplied direct or
through approved installers.
