roof protection systems
3M Construction
3M
United Kingdom plc manufactures and supplies a wide range of liquid membrane coating systems to provide solutions
within commercial and industrial environments for both refurbishment and new build projects. These systems give excellent
long-term protection and durability on roof surfaces and are largely based on water-based and solvent-free technology.
Introduction 3M, a $24.5 billion
diversified technology company,
was founded in 1902 and today
employs more than 75,000 people
around the world, delivering an
extensive range of thousands of
innovative products, technologies
and services to customers in more
than 200 countries.
The 3M subsidiaries in the UK and
Ireland employ 3,500 people across
16 locations, including
12 manufacturing sites.
Applications The range of
Scotchkote liquid roof membrane
systems provides high performance
weatherproofing and waterproofing
for all roof surfaces including:
- Flat asphalt roofs, reducing roof
weight loadings so no solar
reflective ballast is required
- Felt roofs, which once treated will
never degrade
- Cement and concrete roofs where
substrate is completely
encapsulated thus preventing the
onset of osmosis and saturation
- Insulation board with application to
a carrier felt or directly onto taped
and primed boards
- Metal roofs and gutters, upgrading
corrugated tin roofs, Plastisol clad
roofs, cast iron and lead gutters
- Upstands and parapet walls
- Previously coated roofs, reducing
the recoating cycle
- Green roofs, providing a strong,
durable membrane required for
long-term green roof systems
- Balconies and walkways, with grip
systems easily incorporated
- Rooflights, offering anti-shatter
protection to BS 6206
Authority All products are
manufactured under ISO 9001:
2008for quality and ISO 14001 for
environmental management.
Product approvals are available for
fire classification ratings, drinking
water and shatter resistance.
The Scotchkote EC 661/UV 662
liquid roof membrane system is the
subject of Agrément Cert. 11/4572
and European Technical Approval
11/0202. 3M Construction is a full
manufacturer member of the Liquid
Roofing and Waterproofing
Association.
DESCRIPTION
Description The Scotchkote
roofing range of cost-effective and
versatile liquid membrane systems
offers a choice of systems to meet
differing requirements and budgets.
It comprises:
- Flat and pitched roof systems with
gutter relining products
- Warm roof systems able to comply
with Part L
- Emergency repair system
- Insulation including tapered
insulation systems
The range includes systems based
on aliphatic hydrocarbon polymers,
flexible acrylic resins and moisture
triggered polyurethanes.
Systems have excellent adhesion to
most types of existing roof substrate
so, in most instances, negating the
requirement to strip off existing
materials and send them to
expensive land fill as waste.
Once cured, they form a seamless,
elastic skin.
PERFORMANCE
Weather All systems are fully
weatherproof.
Mechanics The seamless, elastic
skin allows substrate movement,
and retains flexibility throughout its
life span.
Liquids Systems provide a lasting
barrier to water penetration.
Heat Systems are unaffected by
temperature extremes.
Light Systems are highly resistant
to sunlight and UV light and do not
embrittle.
Compatibility Systems are fully
compatible with different substrates
on multi-substrate roof areas
Durability Systems available offer
Life to First Maintenance of 5 to
25 years depending on the system.
SITEWORK
Cold-application is by brush and
roller with spray grades available.
No hot works are required and,
being coatings, they are easily
moulded around roof furniture,
upstands and other awkward areas.
ECONOMICS
Warranties Systems carry a
warranty for between 5 & 25 years
depending on the system applied.
A single point warranty extending
between 10 and 25 years covering
waterproofing capability of both
product and its application is also
available. Both warranties are
subject to the system being applied
by a 3M Scotchkote roofing trained
contractor operating to a building
specific 3M Scotchkote system
recommendation.
