Selectaglaze Ltd
Introduction Modern secondary
glazing provides a number of
important benefits that help
buildings adapt to new uses and
new environments and is particularly
helpful to heritage buildings.
Secondary glazing involves the
installation of an additional internal
window to form a double window.
This offers significant noise
insulation, well above the standard
of normal windows, allowing
buildings in noisy locations to be
used as comfortable living or
working environments.
Large numbers of buildings will
need to upgrade their thermal
efficiency in order to gain decent
Energy Performance Certification
and building owners will also seek to
reduce running costs. Secondary
glazing incorporating low E glass
will reduce the U-value to less than
2.0. The use of sealed unit glazing,
effectively creating a triple glazed
window, offers further
improvements.
Windows are a vulnerable part of
any building's security and
protection is sometimes needed
against intruder and blast attack.
Appropriately designed secondary
glazing can offer protection to meet
the needs of Secured by Design and
the more significant levels of
resistance needed by high profile
and sensitive buildings.
The Selectaglaze system is
extensive, ranging from slim
sections suited to heritage buildings
to much more robust frames for
secure applications. The company
offers four styles of sash window,
three horizontal sliding and four
casement styles together with a
number of removable and fixed
designs. Many can be shaped and
curved allowing almost any type of
window to be sympathetically
treated.
