‘Forma’ aluminium column casings from Encasement are being used to conceal structural columns at a £1.8 million project undertaken by Brighton & Hove Council to create a new customer services centre in the city at Bartholomew House.
Designed in house by the council’s Property & Design team and constructed by its strategic partner, Westridge Construction, Bartholomew House is a five-floor building that combines the services previously provided by three separate centres into a single
modern facility.
The extended ground floor area houses the new customer service centre, which includes eleven Encasement column casings to not only conceal structural steelwork but also form part of a stylish circular seating arrangement around each column.
Each 860 mm diameter aluminium casing, stands 2.7 m high and incorporates a 1.75 m diameter disc at the top that matches the diameter of the seating design and creates an aesthetic finish to the installation.
The entire project has been conceived as a low maintenance and energy efficient design and is expected to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 12% over the next 2 years, delivering annual cost savings of around £300,000.
Encasement specialises in the supply of decorative casings, protection solutions and sustainable products for the architectural, contracting and construction sectors.
