Industrial and commercial businesses, public organisations and homeowners are doing their utmost to make the very best and most cost-effective use of their finances. Often, this motivates them to find practical and economical ways of optimising the space in existing properties by moving upwards rather than moving out. For instance, homeowners are making better use of their lofts for storage, and businesses are increasing storage space through the use of mezzanine floors and by utilising the space afforded by flat roofs to locate such things as plant, motor and boiler rooms.

One prerequisite of this move upwards, is the need for access stairways to be safe, robust and well-situated. In addition, many seek suppliers who can offer add-on features and options to enable them to customise stairways to meet specific requirements.

The market leader in this area is Premier Loft Ladders. The preferred choice of many architects and building industry professionals throughout the UK, Premier leads the field in design, technology, energy efficiency and quality, and is recognised as being the foremost supplier of concertina style aluminium and folding or sliding style wooden loft and access ladders.

Premier’s primary stairway is the Supreme – a concertina-style, ready-to-fit ladder superbly engineered and manufactured in Germany at the factory where the concept of the concertina (formerly known as the zig zag) retractable ladder originated.

Suitable for a maximum floor to ceiling height up to 4600 mm, the standard Supreme is made from high strength, die-cast aluminium alloy components contained within and attached to a laminated wood trapdoor and lining.

The Supreme with a weatherproof roof hatch for flat roof access would normally be supplied with a single seal at the top of the lining for when the roof hatch closes, but can now be offered with a double seal to the roof hatch to improve energy saving. The standard single seal under the top cover would allow up to
35 mm of insulation around the outside of the hatchbox. The special double seal can allow anything between 80 mm to
120 mm.

The flat roof access is just one of a choice of several options and accessories offered with the Supreme. These include electrical operation, 30 or 90 minute fire resistant casings, vertical access, suspended ceiling application, top operating mechanism, insulated trapdoor, telescopic handrail (to one or both sides), an upper level guardrail and protective feet, etc.

Premier offers a free service to help architects, specifiers and contractors choose the right ladder for their specific needs, and its ladders have been installed at many high profile private and public sector projects and buildings, including the Malmo City Tunnel, the Victoria and Albert Museum, Temple Bar, the Reform Club in Pall Mall, and many hospitals, prisons, universities and schools.

Prices are extremely competitive; in fact, the company will match the price of any like for like product found at a lower price elsewhere!
