Safety valve specialist Reliance Water Controls has developed a new range of thermostatic taps, designed to meet the requirements of HTM (Health Technical Memorandum) 64, and so ideal for the healthcare washroom. The Caremix® range of thermostatic taps are TMV3 approved and comply with the NHS Estates 1997 Model Engineering Specification D08 to prevent scalding where users are considered to be at a particularly high risk. A failsafe mechanism ensures protection from extreme temperatures is given, even if the hot or cold water supply fails. Blending hot and cold water to a safe temperature at the outlet allows hot water to be stored and circulated at sufficiently high temperatures to avoid the growth of legionella bacteria in the system.

The Caremix® taps feature a safe-touch surface so the user can not be burned by touching the body of the tap. A special, highly scratch-resistant finish provides a long-lasting, smooth surface for easy, thorough cleaning. The Caremix® IR3 is infra-red activated, for hands free operation; the other models feature lever handle operation and are available with an extended, spatula-shaped lever for hospital use, for easy operation using the elbow or arm to help prevent cross contamination.
