Hot air welded, single layer TPE waterproofing system for flat or pitched roofs.

  • Lower cost alternative to Atlantic Roofing System, using lighter gauge (1.6 mm) membrane.
  • Membrane: Extruded thermoplastic polyethylene (TPE) with glass fibre reinforcement. Does not require further protection.
  • Resistant to chemical degradation, fire, mechanical damage, passage of water vapour, root penetration.
  • Flexible from -40 to 130º C.
  • Suitable for new build or refurbishment of warm and inverted roofs (cold roof system also available).
  • Hot air welding reduces installation fire risk, compared with torch-on or site-boiled bitumen adhesion products. Advantageous for refurbishment of occupied buildings.
  • Choice of mechanical fix or unfixed ballasted systems. Not suitable for adhesive fix.
  • Life expectancy in excess of 40 years.
  • 10 or 15 year insurance backed guarantee on application, subject to installation and inspection by Bailey. Consult manufacturer.
  • Supplier offers system design, including wind load, U-value and flat roof drainage calculations.
  • Installation by recommended contractors.

Resistance to traffic:

System accepts limited foot traffic or light concentrated loads associated with construction or maintenance.

Fire performance to BS 476:

External fire spread: Testing indicates that when used on non-combustible substrates, Atlantic membranes are unrestricted by provisions of Approved Document B of the Building Regulations.

Adhesion/ Fixing:

  • Adhesion or fixing of system elements to one another and to substrates needs to be sufficient to resist wind suction and building movement. Bailey can provide windload calculations if required.
  • Suitable for mechanical fixing or unfixed ballasted applications.
  • Mechanical fixing is preferred on timber, plywood, galvanized steel, or aluminium decks and may be used on screeded concrete subject to pullout tests.
  • Unfixed applications may be ballasted with gravel, paving slabs on rubber pads, or roof planting by others. Gravel 16–32 mm diameter, to minimum 50 mm depth, increasing to 80 mm within 1 m of perimeters and corners. Supplement with mechanical fixings at perimeter and corners and around penetrations.

Vapour barrier:

- F-605, Laminal:

  • SBS bitumen based, with aluminium core:
  • Suitable for torching both sides for bonding to substrate and bedding of insulation boards.
  • Suitable for mechanical fixing with laps hot air welded and insulation mechanically fixed or adhesive fixed to sanded top surface.
  • Suitable for high performance felt or single ply systems.

- F-606, Duo-Vap:

  • SBS bitumen based, with tear resistant reinforcement. Resistant to substrate movement and foot penetration.
  • Self-adhesive both sides with removable film.
  • Suitable for single ply or bituminous systems.
  • For high buildings, roofs with parapet walls, exposed locations or other applications with high risk of wind uplift, a wind load calculation is recommended and can be provided by Bailey.

- F-608, Bailey Poly-Vap:

  • 1000 gauge polythene, tear resistant. Low cost. Resistant to substrate movement.
  • Suitable for loose laying beneath mechanically fixed systems.
  • Suitable for single ply. Not suitable for bituminous or adhered systems.

Insulation:

- Polyisocyanurate (PIR):

  • E-PIRFOF, Sure-therm polyisocyanurate foil faced (CFC and HCFC-free): For single ply membranes, mechanically fixed. Suited to most applications, including refurbishment. Compatible with most other building materials.
  • E-PIRGTF, Sure-therm polyisocyanurate glass tissue faced (CFC and HCFC-free): For single ply membranes, adhesive fixed applications. Suited to most applications, including refurbishment. Compatible with most other building materials.

- Expanded polystyrene (EPS):

  • E-EPSFOF, Sure-therm expanded polystyrene foil faced (CFC and HCFC-free, zero ODP/GWP): For single ply membranes mechanically fixed. 100% recyclable. Requires greater thicknesses for equivalent U-value compared to PIR.
  • E-EPSUNF, Sure-therm expanded polystyrene unfaced (CFC and HCFC-free, zero ODP/GWP): For single ply membranes, adhesive fixed insulation applications. 100% recyclable. Requires greater thicknesses for equivalent U-value compared to PIR.

- Extruded polystyrene (XPS):

E-XPSUNF, Sure-therm extruded polystyrene unfaced: For single ply membranes on warm roofs, adhered or mechanically fixed. Loose laid on inverted roofs. High compressive strength and high moisture resistance. Suitable for use on roofs with regular traffic, heavy loads and inverted roof applications.

- Rock Mineral Wool (RMW):

E-RMWUNF, Sure-therm mineral wool unfaced, (CFC and HCFC-free, zero ODP/GWP): For single ply membranes, adhered or mechanically fixed. Low compressive strength. Unsuitable for roofs with regular traffic or heavy loads/surface finishes.

- Tapered Insulation (all types):

  • EPS, Sure-therm expanded polystyrene, tapered to falls: Use where substrate is flat or ponded.
  • PIR, Sure-therm polyisocyanurate, tapered to falls: Use where substrate is flat or ponded.
  • RMW, Sure-therm mineral wool, tapered to falls: Use where substrate is flat or ponded.

- Insulation Fixings/ Adhesive:

  • F-710, F-711, F-712, Sure-fix fasteners with F-701, F-702 Sure-fix tube washers. Not required where vapour barrier is self adhesive both sides or insulation is to be bonded with adhesive.
  • F-705, Sure-fix adjustable insulation fasteners for fixing tapered insulation to concrete decks. Not required where vapour barrier is self adhesive both sides or insulation is to be bonded with adhesive.
  • F-612, Sure-bond expanding foam adhesive for bonding insulation to very rough or uneven substrates. For most applications F-621 is suitable. Not required where vapour barrier is self adhesive both sides or insulation board is to be mechanically fixed.
  • F-621, Sure-bond PU adhesive for insulation board. Not required where vapour barrier is self adhesive both sides or insulation board is to be mechanically fixed. Application (minimum): 100-300 g/m², increased at perimeter and corners.

Membrane:

- Grade 300:

  • Reinforced with inorganic glass fibre mat.
  • Suitable for mechanical fixing or unfixed, ballasted systems.
  • Thickness: 1.6 mm.
  • Weight: 1.50 kg/m².
  • Roll length: 20 m.
  • Side laps: overlap by 110 mm. Weld width (minimum): 40 mm.
  • Colour: light grey (standard), dark grey or black (special order subject to minimum quantity and lead time), red, green or other bespoke colour (special order for very large projects only, subject to minimum quantity and lead time).

- Membrane Fixings:

  • F-710, Sure-fix fasteners, steel deck, with F-703 Sure-fix membrane tube washers: Number per m² (minimum): 5. For warm roof constructions.
  • F-711, Sure-fix fasteners, concrete deck, with F-704 Sure-fix membrane tube washers: Number per m² (minimum): 5. For warm roof constructions.
  • F-712, Sure-fix fasteners, timber deck, with F-703 Sure-fix membrane tube washers: Number per m² (minimum): 5. For warm roof constructions.
  • F-706, Sure-fix adjustable membrane fasteners: Number per m² (minimum): 5. For warm roof constructions, with tapered insulation over a concrete deck.

Accessories:

- Edges:

  • Upstand flashings: Use Grade 300 unbacked membrane. Minimum 150 mm high with termination bar and expanding tape or metal wall cover flashing, D-522-16. Maximum 200 mm overlap to roof covering, with hot air welded joints. For upstands over 150mm high, adhere flashing with Sure-bond contact adhesive, F-613. For upstands over 500mm high, provide intermediate fixing with termination bar.
  • Draining edges: Use Atlantic EC16 drip metal, D-521-16 or bespoke flashing with cover strap in Grade 300 unbacked membrane.

- Pipes and penetrations:

Use Atlantic Grade 100 Non-reinforced membrane (2mm thick, 520mm x 15m roll) to form traditional pipe collar or use pre-formed sleeves.

- Outlets and vents:

- Rooflights:

  • Bailey Sure-dome rooflights - available square, rectangular and circular in a variety of sizes with domed, pyramid or trapezoidal, single/ double/ triple skin polycarbonate glazing. Glazing available with clear, opal diffused or bronze (anti-glare) finish. Rooflights also available as access/ escape hatches, with manual or automatic opening and manual or powered ventilation. Rooflights are mounted on curbs made from PVCu, GRP or aluminium with straight (vertical) or splayed (angled) sides. Security curbs option also available.

Systems:

- Atlantic EC16 System for application to concrete deck (warm roof):

  • Duo-Vap (F-606), double sided self adhesive vapour barrier.
  • Sure-therm PIR insulation secured to self adhesive vapour barrier.
  • Grade 300 Atlantic EC16 membrane, mechanically fixed using Sure-fix fasteners at approx 300mm centres, depending on roof situation and size. 110mm laps hot air welded, with minimum 40mm weld.

- Atlantic EC16 System for application to metal deck (warm roof):

  • Poly-Vap (F-608), 1000 gauge polythene vapour barrier, loose laid.
  • Sure-therm PIR insulation board, mechanically fixed.
  • Grade 300 Atlantic EC16 membrane, mechanically fixed at 100-300 mm centres, depending on roof situation and size. 110 mm laps hot air welded, with minimum 40 mm weld.

- Atlantic EC16 System for application to plywood deck (cold roof):

  • Grade 300 Atlantic EC16 membrane, mechanically fixed using Sure-fix fasteners at approx 300 mm centres, depending on roof situation and size. 110 mm laps hot air welded, with minimum 40 mm weld.
  • Suitable for cold roofs with ventilated roof space and vapour barrier.
