Lytag lightweight aggregate (LWA) conforming to BS EN 13055 is used in the production of lightweight concrete (LWC), which is designed in accordance with BS EN 206-1 and BS 8500. The lightweight concrete has a density of 1850 kg/m³ using natural fines (Normal weight concrete of 2400 kg/m³). If fines are used in conjunction with the 4/14 mm aggregate, the density can be as low as 1650 kg/m³.

Can be used in any application where normal weight concrete is specified.

  • Reinforced concrete slabs: Using Lytag within the design can not only reduce the thickness of the slab, columns and foundations but also reduce the amount of rebar required resulting in a quicker more cost-effective greener building.
  • Composite decks: Lytag lightweight concrete can be used in composite decks. As spans increase the deflection becomes the defining factor. The use of Lytag minimizes the weight by up to 30% therefore reducing the deflection.

Features and benefits:

  • Reduces the weight over normal weight concrete by 30%.
  • Lytag is a secondary aggregate saving natural aggregates.
  • Improved fire resistance over normal weight concrete.
  • Reduces cold bridging.

Additional information may be required, including:

- Compressive strength class:

Insert required strength class from BS EN 206–1:2000 table 8 (e.g. LC 35/38).

- Target density/ density class:

Insert required target oven dry density or select a density class from BS EN 206–1 table 9 (e.g. 1750 kg/m³ or D1.8).

- Fine aggregate:

Only if lightweight coarse is used a natural fine aggregate will be required.

- Cement type:

Insert the cement type/ combination required which should be selected from BS 8500-2:2006 table 1.

- Admixture type:

Generally, a water reducing admixture (normal or high range) will be incorporated into the mix. In some instances, it may be required to use a viscosity modifying admixture to assist pumping or in self compacting concrete. Other specific admixtures may also be incorporated like polypropylene or structural fibres and pigments etc.

- Consistence class/ target value:

Insert the target consistence value or select the consistence class from BS EN 206–1:2000 table 3 or 6. For skip mix concrete select a slump value or class or for pump mix select a flow value or class.

- Additional mix requirements:

Insert any other specific requirements such as minimum cement contents, water cement ratios, exposure classes, pumping requirements, curing requirements.

DOP certificate (CE mark) available on request.

ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001 certificates, BES 6001 certificate (excellent rating).
