Green-tree Structural Soil is a traditional sand and soil based substrate blended with polypropylene fibres. During the mixing process the crimped polypropylene fibres are entwined with the soil increasing the overall strength and resistance of the soil. It is applied above a Type 1 sub base layer then overlaid with turf to the project specification. As the turf becomes established the roots interlock with the system, further increasing stability and its cohesive strength. The benefits of using crimped fibre reinforced soil have been extensively tested, the results as a whole show the potential wide ranging applications of fibre reinforced soils and the extent to which a relatively small quantity of polypropylene fibres improves the soils strength.
