Waterproof tile backer boards for floors providing decoupling, impact sound insulation and thermal insulation. Typically used to stop footfall noise on a tiled floor being heard in the room or flat underneath.

Features and benefits:

  • Offers waterproof, thermal insulation (thermal conductivity 0.04 W/m·K).
  • Has an impact absorbing layer bonded to the surface.
  • Lightweight and easy to use.
  • Allows floors to be tiled without the concern of causing noise pollution - the boards are designed to solve problems incurred by structural vibrations from impact sound (e.g. footsteps).
  • Reduces sound by up to 20 dB, and heat loss by up to 60%.
  • Load bearing capacity of up to 30 t/m².
  • The material will not shrink, degrade or become brittle.
  • Provides decoupling, so that lateral movement in the floor is absorbed by the board and not, for example, by tiled flooring - so the tiles don’t crack.
  • Meets local authority regulations for tiled bathrooms in shared apartments and flats.
  • Can be cut to size easily.
  • Can be used with underfloor heating wire.
  • Manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems.

The SoundBoard will remove the solid link between where the impact sound happens (floor/ ceiling) with a layer of styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) foam. The side with the sound attenuating layer will then effectively isolate the tiles and the tile backer board from the floor, so the impact sound vibrations cannot be transmitted into the room below.

Applications:

Designed to reduce the noise that can be heard in the room or flat below, and is suitable for use on timber or concrete flooring types.

For fitting instructions onto different types of substrate and recommended taping/ adhesives, consult manufacturer's literature.

Standard product features

Material:

Extruded polystyrene (XPS) covered on both sides with fibreglass mesh, encased in a 0.75 mm layer of polymer modified concrete which permanently bonds the mesh to the polystyrene. On one concrete face, a 2 mm thick layer of synthetic rubber has been bonded.

Size (w x l):

600 x 1250 mm.

Technical characteristics:

  • Weighted reduction in impact sound (on tiled surface): 20 dB.
  • Thermal resistance (R-value): 8 mm board: 0.19 m²K/W; 12 mm board: 0.30 m²K/W.
  • Thermal conductivity (K-value): 8 mm board: 0.04 W/m·K; 12 mm board: 0.04 W/m·K.
  • Compressive strength (to EN 826): 300 kPa.
  • Water absorption (to EN 53428): None.
