The system operates on a single guide track placed adjacent to a wall. The operating aisles are kept completely clear of conventional tracks and infill floors and ramps etc. This means the installation and relocation can be carried out quickly and simply.

The existing floor covering is utilized and when the unit is relocated, the floor covering is left in useable condition. Due to the unique way Monotrak transmits its load to the floor (through a series of specially designed wheels with polyurethane tyres); it operates on raised access computer floors without any reinforcement to the floor. Being a low profile design, it is generally 100 mm lower than a conventional mobile which often means that an additional level of filing can be accommodated within the existing headroom.

Features and benefits:

  • Single guide track.
  • No infill floor.
  • Distributes the load and reduces point loads.
  • Slim carriage profile.
  • Mechanically simple and easy to install.
  • Saves space in offices etc.
  • Safe; no trip hazards in the access aisles.
  • Relocatable without groundworks to new site, can be moved easily.
  • Minimal maintenance costs and releases space for decks and other uses.

Tested to BS EN 14073-2:2004.

Standard product features

Material:

  • Both longitudinal and cross members are manufactured from 64 x 38 x 3 mm cold rolled angle of grade CR4 steel to BS 1449-1.
  • The guide bar is manufactured from 25 x 12 mm bar stock.

Load wheels:

Supported by two bearing blocks containing a 6203 bearing with a load rating of 400 kg per wheel.

Primary drive assembly:

Consists of a box section upstand, together with the internal running gear. The design is extremely flexible in that it enables single, double or treble reduction gearing to be incorporated within the structure, together with various types of locking facility.

Primary head assembly:

The head assembly is the initial drive to which the capstan handle is fitted. It consists of a 17 mm drive shaft and a ten tooth drive sprocket which is welded to the shaft. The shaft is press-fitted into a 6203 bearing to eliminate play in the primary head.

Reduction assembly:

Consists of a removable mounting plate on which reduction sprockets (30 tooth primary and ten tooth secondary sprockets) are attached to an Oilite bush on an 18 mm mounting shaft.

Secondary drive assembly:

Mounted in the mobile carriage and consists of a 17 tooth sprocket fixed to a 17 mm shaft which is located by two 6203 bearings.

Transmission shaft:

Fixed to the secondary drive assembly on a captive key way and a 6 mm bolt for placement and retention. Tested to be 40 percent more efficient than a solid drive shaft. Carriages are propelled by a direct drive system whereby the drive is transmitted directly through each load wheel on one side of the base, resulting in evenly distributed transmission loads and prevents the base from 'crabbing'.

Rubber bumpers:

A rubber bumper is mounted at various points along the length of the carriage to prevent a collision.

Options

Handle:

  • Capstan handle: Three spoke cranked handle with rotating knobs to provide an ergonomic method of propelling the carriages.
  • Handwheel: As an alternative to the Capstan handle, a circular wheel is available with a round knob integral lock.

Static carriages:

Where it is important to retain a common line throughout the shelving system, then static bases can be utilized. This lifts the static shelving to the same height as the mobile shelving. Manufactured to the same specification as the mobile carriages but without any load wheels.

End panels:

A variety of decorative end panels are available including steel powder coated to specific requirements, melamine or laminate with aluminium trim and a range of fabrics to co-ordinate with the colour scheme of the environment where the carriages exist.

Anti-tip device:

Where the mobile shelving has a height to depth ratio in excess of 5:1 an anti-tip device may be required. Generally this consists of an overhead mounted box section which runs the full length of the mobile installation with a mounting assembly sliding along the box; when utilized the slide assembly would be restrained by the box section, preventing such tipping actions.
