Breather membranes allow insulated structures to easily release excess moisture vapour into the atmosphere and keep the internal components of wall and roof structures dry, whilst performing the task of a secondary protection membrane and preventing penetration by external environmental impurities such as dirt and rain. These types of membrane are installed on the cold side, or the external side of the insulation beneath the main outer building lining, roof-tiles or cladding.

Vapour Control Layers (VCLs) are used to manage the transition of naturally occurring moisture vapour, which is produced by general building use. VCL membranes are formulated with a wide variety of construction designs in mind, delivering the most suitable product for specific solutions for various applications and requirements. A wrongly specified VCL that does not fully consider the intended building use may produce unwanted results. Choosing the correct vapour control membrane for your application is key to any insulated building construction, be it timber frame, steel frame or any other style. The passage of moisture through a building envelope needs to be managed in order to limit unwanted and damaging precipitation or condensation within the interstitial layer.

Novia VC4000 FR Reflective is a flame resistant and reflective airtight vapour control membrane. Designed for use as a high performance vapour control layer and air leakage barrier. Suitable for use in any insulated wall or roof application where high moisture vapour resistance is required. Novia VC4000 FR Reflective is suitable for applications requiring EN 13501-1 fire approval*
Novia VC4000 FR Reflective will also deliver a very low moisture vapour permeability solution due to the use of the high performance materials. To provide an air tight seal Novia VC4000 FR Reflective must be installed in conjunction with suitable Novia tapes.
*Valid for substrates with fire class A2-s1,d0 or A1 such as 12mm plasterboard, with no cavity between product and substrate. Product tested to EN 13501-1

Novia 1000 Gauge Polythene Vapour Control Layer

Novia 1000 Gauge Polythene Vapour Control Layer is a blown polythene material, suitable for use as a vapour control layer within the walls of frame constructions, or where the control of the passage of water vapour is required.
Novia 1000 Gauge VCL is fully CPR compliant and is CE Approved to EN 13984:2013.
This product also performs the additional task of an air-leakage barrier, to prevent losses due to unwanted convection flows. We also advise the use of Novia double sided butyl tape and metallised BOPP tapes to ensure a complete vapour seal is maintained throughout the entire life of the product.

Novia 1200 VCL is a high specification, blown polythene material, suitable for use as a vapour control layer within the walls of frame constructions, or where control of the passage of water vapour is required.
This product also performs the additional function of an air-leakage barrier, to prevent losses due to unwanted convection flows. We advise the use of Novia butyl and metallised BOPP tapes to ensure a complete barrier integrity throughout the entire life of the product. Novia 1200 VCL should be used in combination with Novia breather membranes to provide an air-tight and vapour resistant system.
Novia 1200 VCL is fully CPR compliant and is CE Approved to EN 13984:2013.

Novia Double-Sided Butyl Tape is a high performance polyisobutylene (PIB) based sealing tape. The product is used in a wide range of applications where products or installations need to be sealed against air and water ingress. Novia Double-Sided Butyl Tape is non-toxic and requires no tools to apply.
Butyl Tape is vital to an efficient installation of all Novia Vapour Control Layers and Gas Barriers. The strength and adhesion secure the membranes in place offering airtight constructions. All installations should be completed with either Novia Metallised BOPP Tape or Aluminium Foil Tape. Three sizes are available from stock: 15mm x 22.5m, 30mm x 30m and 50mm x 10m.

Novia Black Breather Membrane 115gsm

Novia Black Breather is a low weight, high performance breather membrane suitable for use as a breathable roof underlay. It has excellent water resistance and is suitable for direct installation over insulation, boarded roofs or rafters. The product is suitable for all pitched cold and warm roofs, and may also be used as a high specification wall breather. The roll is black on one side, with lines for lapping over, and white on the reverse. Novia Black is suitable for use in BS 5534 wind uplift applications. Following successful tests, Novia Black can be used in zone 1 without additional tapes, and in zones 1-5 using our Breather Membrane lap tape.

Novia Black Construction Wrap is a high performance breather membrane suitable for use as a breathable wall underlay. The material is of such high performance that it is still suitable as a roof underlay. It has excellent water resistance and meets EN 1928 W1 Class. Novia Black Construction Wrap is suitable for direct installation over insulation or rafters. The roll is black on one side, with lines for lapping over, and white on the reverse.

Novia Black Pro Breather Membrane is a premium quality, versatile, heavyweight breather membrane for all pitched cold and warm roofs, and insulated wall applications. The material meets EN 13859-1 for pitched roofing and EN 13859-2 for walls. Novia Black Pro has excellent water resistance but still provides high breathability; it is strong and also complies with EN 13501-1 fire classification grade E. This is our heaviest Novia Black Pro Breather Membrane with a weight of 146GSM. The product is completely black on one side, and white on the reverse, with no text or images on either side, except a 150mm overlap line.

Novia Breather Membrane Lap Tape is a sealing and bonding tape suitable for sealing laps on external breather membranes within both roof and wall applications. It should normally be used in conjunction with Novia double-sided acrylic overlap tape for a fully sealed and airtight membrane installation.
Novia Breather Membrane Lap Tape should be used in conjunction with Novia Black and Novia Reflex breather membranes for use on roofs to meet BS 5534 wind uplift tests. The UK wind zone maps can be found on the individual product datasheets.

Novia FR Breather is a B-s1,d0* fire class breather membrane, dual approved for use in both roof and wall applications.
This membranes is suitable for use in pitched cold and warm roofs, and insulated wall applications including those above 18m in height, in line with current building regulations.
Novia FR Breather meets EN 13859-1 for pitched roofing and EN 13859-2 for walls. Importantly, the product reaches the best water resistance testing result of W1 to EN1928, as well as offering good breathability, and being lightweight for easier installations.
Novia FR Breather is coloured black to the front and white on the reverse. No text or images are present on the material apart from a lap line 150mm in from each edge.

Novia Metallised BOPP (Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene) tape is a high strength, high tack, reflective tape for use in vapour control and gas barrier applications.
BOPP tape adds a final barrier to improve air and moisture vapour tightness. This should be used in conjunction with double sided butyl tape, which is used for the overlap seals. Metallised BOPP tape is used as a final seal on the overlap. This can be used for all overlap and membrane joints.

Novia Reflex Breather Membrane is a reflective breather membrane that is suitable for use on both roof and wall applications. The membrane is CE approved to EN 13859-1 and EN 13859-2. The membrane can improve insulation calculations by utilising the highly reflective surface within a 25mm airgap. Novia Reflex will also act as an external airtightness barrier.
